How to Maintain an Inflatable Boat

Maintaining your Stryker inflatable boat is a vital part of extending its longevity, performance, and lifespan. There are a few points to consider specifically when talking about inflatable boats.

In this article, we are going to cover the major considerations which you should keep in mind if you are the proud owner of an inflatable dinghy, like our Stryker.

Keep It Clean

The importance of properly cleaning your inflatable boat is not to be underestimated. Over time the boat can become encrusted with grime, oil, and crud. If left, the material will stain, causing your dinghy to look unkept and tattered. For every-day use, a simple mix of soap and water will do the trick nicely.

Store It Dry

Following a good wash or removal from the water, ideally you should store your Stryker inflatable boat in a dry condition. Mold is a strong consideration, growing and thriving in damp environments. To reduce the risk of getting mold patches, ensure you thoroughly dry every section of the boat, including drain plugs. Mold will not damage the material, however, overtime may create unsightly stained areas.

Protection for Your Dinghy

A high-quality dinghy needs high-quality protection, we recommend 303 Aerospace protectant as an appropriate protector for the PCV, rubber and plastic in the boat. Using a protective spray assists in the protection of vinyl, rubber and rubber seals from dust, dirt, and oil as well as restoring the appearance of your boat. For the environmentally minded, we recommend 303 Aerospace because it’s kind to the environment, using no petroleum-based solvents or silicone.

Check Valves and Drain Plugs

Checking your valves on your inflatable boat may seem like a small task, however, it is necessary to ensure that you are not leaking air. All Stryker boats come with a valve tool, as part of the inflatable boat’s accessory kit, that is designed for the sole purpose of tightening your valves, therefore ensuring your boat is airtight. We do not recommend adjusting valves, unless you notice any abnormal air loss.

Similarly, checking your drain plugs is an essential task that needs completing before you venture out onto the water. Should your drain plugs be poorly seated or packed with debris, you may find yourself with an unwanted leak. Regularly check your plugs for signs of wear around the seal to ensure that no water is leaking into the boat.

Keep it Covered

Inflatable boats can often face the harshest of weather when in use and often be left to the elements. To prevent damage caused by either the sun, frost, rain, or wind it is recommended to cover your inflatable boat with a heavy-duty tarp or cover while not in use.

Check the Inflation

You must inflate your dingy to the appropriate PSI. Being properly inflated improves efficiency in the water and will reduce the risk of damage or split seals. For the Stryker Inflatable boat, the recommended PSI is 3.6.

Should your inflatable boat happen to suffer a minor tear, you can remedy this yourself by adding one of the patches in the provided repair kit. We always recommend a certified dealership take a look at your boat should more substantial repairs be required or contact the Stryker Boats team so we determine the best route for repair.
